August 2018 Scrawlrbox

Hello fellow Alchemists,

Today I am sharing with you the August 2018 Scrawlrbox. This is my first Scrawlrbox Challenge! Wow I made it out the other side lol… Scrawlrbox is a nice affordable subscription box based in the UK that ships worldwide.

I decided to paint a stained glass window with a cross turning into a sword for this months False Prayer challenge. I added three gems to represent the Holy Trinity (forgot to mention that in the video).

The waterbrush was a total nightmare to work with. Mine either was dry as a bone or released way too much water, there was no middle ground. Wasn’t fussed on the botanical paper included in the box for use with the Inktense paint palette either. I think I will try it out with some regular watercolours and see how it works. My pencil feathered a lot where it was applied heaily though I didn’t get this problem in my sketchbook…

Overall I really liked the new Inktense palette and the addition of seven new colours to the range. Hopefully they bring them out in pencil and block form. I already own the complete set of pencils and a small tin of blocks so am familiar with the medium. Next time I use them though I will be using a proper brush!

The Faber-Castell Graphite Aquarelle was a nice pencil to work with, just not on the included Botanical 50% cotton paper. All in all as someone who cannot draw very well I think I did ok for the August 2018 Scrawlrbox challenge. The next ones a doozy… lol Hope you are creating your own arty crafty alchemy, see you all next time.

Ebay Haul With My Assistant and Swatches of Jane Davenport, Tombow and Prismacolor

Hello fellow Alchemists,

It’s another haul video! This haul is from my favourite eBay seller from Canada. Prices have gone up since I purchased from her (I think I got lucky with the Jane Davenport Paints) but I got some super bargains. In fact I am in the process of doing a new order… The other two paint tins and some Happy Planner sticker which are super expensive over here.

Almost everything was swatched by my lovely assistant, she was defeated by the Mermaid Markers though. To be honest I do think there is a learning curve with them. The Brights watercolor set exceeded my expectations when it came to pigment load. They are so vibrant and pretty. Jane’s website does list the pigment information too. The sparkle pens are gorgeous both light and dark papers and I can’t wait to try out the face stamps and decorate my butterfly effect cover .

The Prima Art Alchemy Rose Gold was gorgeous. More research is needed on how to use the two Antique brilliance waxes as I am unsure how to use them or why my Amethyst is weird. The antiquing medium and the amethyst colour seems to have separated and everything is just brown. Although the Opal Magic is very light it is super pretty over dark surfaces to give a hint of shine.

As for the Prismacolor Premier and the Tombow Galaxy Markers the Jury is out. I wanted to try the pencils for the blending capabilities but I have no idea how to get the nice smooth blends. Due to my arthritis a lot of intensive colouring can become a problem so we will see how it goes. Unless I can get the hand letting aspect down the Tombows may be pointless. I have many other mediums that can do the same thing with colouring.

Ok I have been wordy enough for today. Hope you are creating some arty crafty alchemists yourselves. See you next time.
